Shift bid

I had my shift bid appointment at 0900 hrs. I'm returning to downtown / Ybor City / Channelside on the evening shift. At least I avoided midnights.

Mark your calendars

This year's State Opening of Parliament will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd.

Brrr!!

It's going to be another cold night. Lows tonight will be in the 30's. Thank God it won't snow. I think I'd rather be in Jost Van Dyke.

Back to work

After 12 days of vacation, it's time to go back to work. Going back to work is like easing oneself into a cold swimming pool - it should be done slowly. As a result, I took Friday off to go to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert.

Weigh-In

I only gained one pound according to the scale at Publix. I guess the laps around the Promenade deck paid off.

I've started posting vacation photos here:

The end is here

We have departed the ship and are at the airport, waiting for the 40 minute flight home. It's better than driving back.

Greetings from Halfmoon Cay

We have a winner

I won $7.00 at the craps table. It's better than losing. Update: I won about $40.00 on the following night (Thursday).

Leaving St. Thomas

Most of the passengers are back on board and the ship is underway, heading to Halfmoon Cay in the Bahamas. This means that we are no longer heading away from home, but rather towards it. I think I will have to get a tropical drink.

Magens Bay

We are currently at the beach in St. Thomas. Megans Bay is probably one of the nicest beaches in the world. If you have ever seen my beach photo which is a wallpaper favorite (that's wallpaper, not screensaver. Don't make me public embarass you).

Jost Van Dyke

This island was fun. While you were waiting in line to vote, I was waiting for a painkiller drink at the Soggy Dollar Bar.

Leaving Jost Van Dyke

We are leaving Jost Van Dyke after a wonderful afternoon at the Soggy Dollar Bar. Kirk - we have a baseball hat as requested.

Overall, it was a great afternoon and the beach was fantastic. Next stop - tropical drinks in Tortola before returning to the ship for an 9:00 PM saling.

On the ferry

Thanks to the crazy driving of a taxi driver, we are aboard the ferry and will be underway shortly.

Nightly wrap-up

Monday was a fun day. The weather eas great in Grand Turk. I stopped at Margaritaville and drank a refreshing margarita (what else). After returning aboard, Diane and I played crib at the Crow's Nest. The food was fabulous at dinner as always. I played some more craps but lost a little bit tonight.

Around noon, we head to Jost Van Dyke via Tortola. Stay tuned for a full report.

Ashore in Grand Turk

If you can read this, I'm probably having a better Monday than you are...

Grand Turk

I am going to get off the ship and look around Carnival City. The weather is great today.

Bermuda Triangle

A lady on the elevator asked if we were in the Bermuda Triangle. Of course I couldn't resist and said "yes". I also gave her the east-of-the Rockies number.

Sea Day Wrap-up

Today's weather was not good, so outdoor activites were not possible. Instead of walking the Promenade deck, I went to the gym and used the treadmill for an hour. I did see the Captain on the rowing machine which seemed odd.

I spent the afternoon writing.a paper for class which I sent a few minutes ago.

Dinner this evening was excellent. I played craps and won about $10.00.

Carnival City in Grand Turk is the port-of-call in the morning which has a large Margaritaville.

From the Bridge

I just spoke to the Captain who reports that we are currently about 65 nautical miles east of the Bahamas, and are heading towards Grand Turk at a speed of 16 knots. We are traversing the New Providence shipping channel and will be at the first port of call tomorrow morning.

I have finished breakfast. As always, the food is excellent. I am going to get my ipod and walk laps of the ship on the Promenade deck.

The end of day #1

Hello from the cabin. We are about to call it a night. Overall, I'm impressed with the Eurodam. It's a really nice ship and everyone is having a great time.

Anna - in response to your question: Jim and Diane, who are friends of Rob and I, are sailing with us on this voyage. I'll be posting further updates on Sunday.

From the Bridge

We have sailed from Port Everglades and are now in open water. Dinner is at 8:00 PM and I will be watching the show, then playing craps in the casino. Many thanks to Isaac for mixing the tropical drinks with umbrellas.

Dave - no luck on an upgrade but we did try. The cabin is nice so I can't complain.

Welcome aboard

We are on board!

Preparing for takeoff

We are on the plane. I just spoke to the pilot who said we should have a smooth 40 minute flight to Fort Lauderdale.

At the airport

We have made it through checkpoint charlie at the airport. My toothpaste didn't make it through...look for a TSA screener with a set of pearly whites thatnks to my Colgate

Cell phone updates

I can now update this blog from my Blackberry. Stay tuned for almost-real-time updates. Why read my blog? Why not?

Bon Voyage

We will be getting on the ship in a few hours. Stay tuned to this blog for updates. Sailing time is at 5:00 PM. Hopefully the lifeboat drill will be over by then and we will have had the chance to visit Isaac the Bartender who will provide tropical drinks with umbrellas.
